TARGET GROUP: ESOL AND BASIC SKILLS

 

Learners who may benefit from the Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life qualifications are

 

· speakers of languages other than English, including, for example:

 

· Learners from settled communities, including communities from the Asian sub-continent and Hong Kong

 

· Refugees in the categories of asylum seekers and settled refugees

 

· Migrant workers who work or settle in the United Kingdom for most of their lives

 

· Learners and partners and spouses of learners from all parts of the world who may have been  settled for a number of years

 

· full or part-time learners who have had part of their school education in the United Kingdom, but who want to continue studying English language to support their employment for higher education aim those who wish to access the National Qualifications Framework.

 

 

ESOL E1-3 EDEXCEL

This course varies from complete beginners who need to learn the basics of English grammar and vocabulary to those who wish to achieve Level 2 and progress onto more mainstream courses.. There are classes every week to learn reading, writing, speaking and listening. Applicants will have  a  confidential  initial interview to help plan  individual learning programmes.

Methods: A variety of Methods including assignment, projects, direct observation, presentations and successful completion of an assessed portfolio of evidence. Accreditation of prior learning (APL) will be given for existing skills and experience where relevant and where evidence is available.

Teaching: Teaching will include class meetings, group discussions, project work and Tutorials.  Candidates will be assessed at their place of work (if appropriate).  This will be carried out as agreed by the assessor and candidate.  Candidates will be assessed by various methods.

Award: ESOL Certificate and Citizenship (home office approved)

Applicable for Spousal, indefinite leave and Naturalisation

Progression: Course offers progression onto higher levels and then mainstream courses.

BASIC SKILLS: L1 –L2 EDEXCEL/NCFE

Course: BASIC SKILLS IN NUMERACY AND LITERACY

This is an ideal qualification for adults wishing to assess their own level of literacy and numeracy. The qualification also allows learners to develop their ability to understand mathematical information and also develop their speaking, skills, enabling them to communicate effectively and to feel more confident in all aspects of their everyday life skills.

Assessment: To be carried out as agreed by the individual and tutor.
