Support Teaching and Learning
QUALIFICATION SUMMARY:
The in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) has been designed to meet the needs of all those working in a school support staff role, It seeks to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that learners working in a school setting will need and covers areas such as safeguarding, communication and understanding the school context. These qualifications are suitable for a wide range of support roles including:
• teaching, classroom and learning support assistants
• special needs assistants
• behaviour support assistant/coordinators
• pastoral/welfare assistants
• foundation stage assistants
• team leaders
Learners will have to provide knowledge evidence to that satisfies performance areas for each unit specified within the qualifications.
Progression routes include employment opportunities existing within primary, special and secondary schools in both the state and independent sectors. Opportunities also exist to move into other roles across the wider children's workforce e.g. child care, play work or youth work. Make Change Associates currently run the following levels listed below:
Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
Qualification Structure:
A learner must complete 30 credits to achieve this qualification - 24 credits must be taken by completing all mandatory units in group A.
A maximum of 3 credits must be taken from Group B – 1 unit
A minimum of 3 credits must be taken from Group C – 1 unit
Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
Qualification structure
12 credits must be achieved by taking 4 units. Learner progress to either Level 3 STLS certificate once they have completed this Award..

Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
Qualification structure
32 credits must be achieved by taking all of the units in Group A. All 11 Mandatory units must be completed to achieve this qualification.

Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
Qualification Structure:
Learners must complete 44 credits to achieve this qualification - 32 credits must be achieved by taking all units in Group A. The remaining 12 credits can be achieved by taking units from Groups B, C, D, E, F or G. At least 40 of the 44 credits achieved must be at Level 3 or above.
